Instagram's Identity Crisis

Instagram decided to add two new updates to the platform this week.
Instagram's Map shares your live location whenever you use the app.
Reposts are shown on your profile to enchance what you like to show off.
Why it sucks? - It is copying Snapchat and Tiktok again.
Snapchat launched Snap Maps back in 2017. Snap maps made sense as it was a mainly private platform. You only have access to me, if I allow it.
Tiktok launched reposts in late 2021. It is an easier way to share videos/photos to multiple people. It is also annoying when you repost something and everyone you know likes it and then your notifications are clogged.
Instagram launched these updates on the same day. It feels so unusual, as these are big changes.
This is not a first for Insta. They added the stories feature back in 2016 after Snapchat gained more popularity.
I vividly remembered this from THIS Niki and Gabi video back in 2016.
What's crazy is that the features made so many people angry.
Now your feed is gonna be clogged people liking a post just cause you reposted it. That same notification is on Tiktok too.
Websites are even telling you to turn off your location so it is not live.
Tiktok may be shutting down in 2026 and being replaced for a US only user base.
My theory is that Instagram is trying to take all the US Tiktok users to gain more users. I wrote this to eloquently explain my late night Tiktok I made the other night.
